If you run a business in Morocco and you are not on WhatsApp Business yet, you are leaving money on the table every single day. And if you are on it but only using it like a regular WhatsApp, you are leaving even more. This guide walks you through every setting that matters — in the order it matters — so your number starts working like a front desk that never clocks out.
Why WhatsApp Business, Not Regular WhatsApp
Regular WhatsApp is for your family group chat. WhatsApp Business is a completely separate app, free to download, built for exactly this: letting customers find you, trust you, and reach you — without you having to be glued to your phone every minute.
The difference is not just the label. WhatsApp Business gives you a business profile with your address, hours, and website. It gives you a product catalog. It gives you automated greeting messages, away messages, and quick replies. None of that exists in regular WhatsApp.
Step 1 — Download the App and Create Your Business Profile
Download WhatsApp Business from the App Store or Google Play. It is free. Use your business phone number — not your personal one. If you only have one number, you can migrate it, but it is better to have a dedicated business line.
Once you are in, go to Settings → Business Tools → Business Profile. Fill in every field:
- Business name: Your real trading name, exactly as it appears on your sign or invoices.
- Category: Choose the closest one — Restaurant, Health, Retail, etc.
- Description: Two to three sentences. What you do, where you are, what makes you different. Write it like you would tell a new neighbor.
- Address: Full address, including city. Many customers in Morocco use WhatsApp to get directions.
- Hours: Set them accurately. If you close for Friday prayers or adjust for Ramadan, update it.
- Email and website: Even if your website is just a landing page, put it. It builds trust.
A complete profile turns a random number into a recognizable business. It is the digital equivalent of having a proper sign above your door.
Step 2 — Build Your Catalog
The catalog is one of the most underused features on WhatsApp Business in Morocco. It lets you showcase your products or services directly inside the chat — no need to send customers to Instagram or ask them to scroll through old photos.
Go to Settings → Business Tools → Catalog. Add your items with a clear photo, a name, a short description, and a price. For a café, this is your top five items. For a real estate agent, it is your current listings. For a clinic, it is your services and consultation fees. Once live, customers can browse and share items directly in chat — like a mini store inside WhatsApp.
Step 3 — Set Up Your Greeting Message
The greeting message goes out automatically the first time someone messages you, or after 14 days of silence. Think of it as your receptionist's opening line.
Go to Settings → Business Tools → Greeting Message. Toggle it on. Write something warm and specific. Bad example: "Welcome to our business." Good example: "Merhba bik! Thank you for reaching out to [Your Business Name]. We reply within a few minutes during business hours. Feel free to browse our catalog in the meantime."
Step 4 — Set Up Your Away Message
The away message fires when someone contacts you outside your business hours. Without it, a customer who messages you at 11 PM gets silence — and silence, in 2026, reads as neglect.
Go to Settings → Business Tools → Away Message. Toggle it on, set a schedule matching your actual hours. Write something that manages expectations: "We are currently closed but will reply first thing tomorrow morning. If it is urgent, leave us your number and we will call you back."
Step 5 — Create Quick Replies
Quick replies are keyboard shortcuts for your most common answers. You type a slash and a keyword, and the full reply appears. This is where most business owners save hours every week.
Go to Settings → Business Tools → Quick Replies. Think about the ten questions you answer most often. For a restaurant: hours, reservation process, menu, parking. For a clinic: booking, pricing, location. Create a quick reply for each. Example: type /menu and out comes: "Our full menu is in our catalog — tap the shop icon in chat to browse. For today's specials, just ask."
Step 6 — Use Labels to Organize Your Conversations
Labels are color-coded folders for your chats. Without them, a busy WhatsApp inbox becomes chaos — leads mixed with suppliers mixed with customers mixed with complaints.
Go to Settings → Business Tools → Labels. A simple starting set: New Lead, Awaiting Payment, Confirmed, Follow Up, Supplier. Assign a label by long-pressing any conversation. This is your first step toward a real CRM.
Where the App Ends and Automation Begins
WhatsApp Business the app gets you 60% of the way there. It is excellent for a business handling 20 to 30 conversations a day. But it runs on one phone, with one person, and you still have to be the one reading and typing.
When volume grows — or when you want your business to respond at midnight without you being awake — that is when a WhatsApp bot built on the official API takes over. A well-configured bot can qualify leads, answer FAQs in Arabic, French, Darija, and English, route complex questions to you with a full summary, and capture lead details directly into your CRM.
The app is your starting point. Automation is what makes it scale.
The difference between the WhatsApp Business app and a proper automation setup is the difference between a good receptionist and one who works 24 hours a day, speaks four languages, never forgets a follow-up, and costs a fraction of a salary.
